As the holidays approach, I was stuck trying to think of teacher gift ideas for my girls’ kindergarten and daycare teachers.
So I turned to my good friends on Twitter. I love having a sounding board for ideas be it marketing related or for holiday gift ideas. Feedback so far – candy/food, scarf/hat, handmade items from child like jewelry or card.
Last year I got Target gift cards so they could either buy for themselves or for the classroom.
Once idea I like from the web sites below is a gift basket filled with school supplies/books for the class. There is also an appreciative wall poster about teaching that a teacher can put on the wall in the classroom.
I guess the underlying message is that teachers like being appreciated and we can show them through our children’s eyes in simple, inexpensive ways.
I checked Google search as well and found a neat ecofriendly gift site as my daughter’s kindergarten teacher is very earth friendly.

I am a proud parent today. My oldest daughter turned 5. It might not seem like a milestone, and I surprised myself how much it turned out to be for all of us. She graduated pre-k in May and is starting kindergarten next month. She has grown up so much and is so sweet to her younger sister. We are so fortunate to have her in our life. She had her party with her friends yesterday. We rented a bounce house and had old fashioned stuff at our house like sidewalk chalk on the driveway, playing in her room with her princess stuff, a candy and toy stuffed pinata and a celebratory cake. The parents sat in lawn chairs on the driveway and we had cornhole set up and a ring toss game for the kids. It was almost like I remember it as a kid. She wanted to see her baby album today. That is when it made me feel like it was a milestone. For us, but also for her. She has come a long way. She wanted to see how far, and we were so pleasantly surprised when at the end of the photo album, we all had a group hug. Life doesn’t get much better than that. 🙂
There was an eye-opening article recently in Glamour magazine about the onslaught of sexual marketing messages our sweet preschoolers are exposed to and the effects it has on them.
The Bratz dolls are a key example.
As a mom of a 4 year old, you bet I’m concerned.

My 3 year old daughter is having bad dreams just like I used to. I worry about it but we filter her television viewing to preschool shows and try to turn off the tv a lot. I know we read stories with bad people and I guess it’s just going to happen. I am trying to talk about it more with her so it won’t seem as scary. Here is a good article about nightmares and preschoolers on babycenter, my bible.
